    I agree with ditto and jessi on this point.

    I was also always taught that Russia (and certainly the former Soviet Union) was a EurAsian nation, i.e., the former Soviet Republics of Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, the Baltic States, and the Russian Republic itself roughly from St. Petersburg and Moscow west were “European Russia”, while the rest of the Russian Republic, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan and the Central Asian Soviet Republics were “Asian Russia”.
