  1. donatella- I think most people aren’t doing it intentionally, but it can be unthinking. But I also believe that its something that is pretty pervasive in society anyway. Not just ours. I understand why society is like that, but when it comes to services, taxes, assistance programs, socially- being a parent opens up opportunities that single/childless people have no access to. Everything in almost every society focuses on families. But single people and childless people are also part of families.

We’ve had so many discussions about Park Slope moms for instance. Sometimes I feel parents have a sense of entitlement that childless people don’t. Forget the Mothers and Fathers Day frenzies.

The kids of my friends and family are a joy to me. What I resent is the idea my life is less important or meaningful because I didn’t have a child and unfortunately, society and tradition all reinforce that. I personally don’t buy into it, but it does get tiring to deal with it over and over.

On the other hand I can truthfully say to rob that those parents have less to worry about me stealing their babies than they do with me stealing their cats 🙂

  2. Michael Kahn, technical analyst at Barrons, just posted an article that could be considered moderately positive. First potentially optimistic thoughts from this guy in a very long time.
