lol you do realize if MM reads that her head is going to explode, right? i dont know, i really dont think i could get into opera at all. plus isnt it in other languages most of the time?
All opera has sub-titles in the US. In the NYC opera it is supra-title above the stage, in the Met, you get to choose between English, German, and Spanish and the subtitles are in little LCD panels on the back of the chair in front of you. You have a pre-conceived notion about it, but opera combines gorgeous symphonic music, dance, beautiful sets and costumes (productions), acting and gorgeous, gorgeous singing. Some people who love classical music don’t like opera — it isn’t pure enough or something for them, but you should try it some day/night.
Just in case you think that it is “snobby” and uptight, I saw the last Met performance of a singer by the name of Leonie Rysanek. Do you think that the people clapped pollitely and primly went off home. NOOOO….. people went byserk, clapping, yelling, and the peanut gallery (all the hard core in standing room) were kicking the backs of the seats and roaring applause. It went on and on. The Met had to turn off the lights to get people to go home.
Opera is just a musical in a foreign languate with more expensive tickets and a more insufferable audience.
