Best girl with guitar = Beth Orton.
Not sure if this counts as ‘confession’ or just embryonic Canadian bias but K.D. Lang has made some great music. Excellent album from the early 90’s “Ingenue” on which the order of the songs reflects the rise and fall of a failed love affair.
There is probably no female performer to whom I have had more hostility than Madonna. An old boyfriend used to think it was kind of funny. He thought she had a lot of spirit and was admirable. (never said anything about her music though) but I didn’t like her music, her act, her self-referential marketing, every month a new look (don’t give me a hard time please) but her stealing Catholic/Christian imagery, sacred objects and using them for shock value. After her Truth or Dare and the Book Naked, I thought she had backed herself into a corner from which she could not leave, except to become a soccer mom or cub scout leader. I think that pretty much happened.
Speaking of skinny chicks and guitars, Jewel is a talented singer/songwriter and a pretty decent guitar player too. I also like some Indigo Girls songs. GOTD?
