Rob, the old gov’t student loans were sold to investors so, unlike the new direct-issue govt ones, the government doesnt have the right to alter their terms.

No, rob, you’re the jerk. There’s a huge difference between someone who has been paying their loans back for years, who times out, and someone who has never paid much of anything back and thinks they can game the system. The former has probably more than paid back the principal, you haven’t come anywhere close. Why should you get a break? For someone who constantly complains that people are scamming the system with lotteries for apartments, or rent controlled homes, or even welfare, you are just as “bad”, and have the nerve to be hypocritical about it too.
