  1. Rob, if you’re coming from SoHo to get to Hot Bird on Thursday, take the F downtown from Broadway-Lafayette, and change at Jay Street for the C. Go three stops on the C and get off at Clinton-Washington. Walk a block south on Clinton and you’re there.

  3. ****Interesting Neighborhood Alert****

    Hello folks,
…I just came back from lunch by the beach in the Rockaways.

Remember how a couple of months ago, brownstoner posted about a Jack’s Coffee Shop opening in Rockaway Park?

Well the place is on the corner of Beach 96th Street and Rockaway Beach Blvd. The same beach made famous by the Ramones in their 70’s punk classic: Rockaway Beach

The neighborhood has an only in New York kind of feel,
you have empty lots with overgrown weeds, shiny modern condos and even fedders construction, along side traditional Victorians with American flags flying proud.
There are hipster looking dudes with beards and surfboards along side locals with bleached hair looking California.
There are hip moms with sundresses and tattoos and urban teens with skateboards and red bandanas worn cholo style.

I had the fish tacos for lunch at the taco stand which is two doors down from Jacks Coffee shop.
The tacos were excellent with guacamole and just a hint of cilantro.
in between the shops is DiCosma’s home made Italian ices.
I had a really good lemon ice, not syrupy sweet, more tangy and so fresh you’ll be picking the lemon seeds out of it.
there’s a small surfboard shop in between where you can buy a used board and there’s even a co-op store occupying the ground level of a small building.

    total price for lunch $6.50.

    Did I mention the beach?
Right on the Atlantic with a large boardwalk.
If that hurricane comes close this week,
    the waves should be killer.
