“I saw that on the news, Dibs. There was also a pension component, people padding on overtime to get more pension benefits.”
YES! Like the LIRR, they have some sort of formula. So it’s a condoned activity that you can PAD your salary to bump up your pension! THIEVES!
Oh g*d, I hate this CRAP!

I’m not condoning any unlawful shenanigans, but if the rules are such that your pension depends on your salary before retirement, and if you can increase that salary by working lots of overtime, why *wouldn’t* you do so? It’s like the tax code: there are rules, and there are lawful ways around the rules, and we actually pay professionals to help us take advantage of the loopholes. Nothing wrong with that. Work to change the rules if you don’t like them, but don’t call people who take advantage of them thieves.
And let’s not forget that public employees make relatively low salaries during their careers — the trade-off is that they get good benefits, including pensions. I make a lot more in the private sector than I would in government, but I don’t get a pension.
Both of you would be subject to a loud “EXCUSE ME!” as I plow past you, although I always say “thank you”, as I leave you battered and mashed into the shelves.
Thank you Park Sloper. I agree completely.

For Rob, a bonus SQOTD:
Why buy shampoo when real poo is still free?
