Legion, you are picking nits here, and splitting hairs. I’m not “hiding behind the Constitution”. I’m embracing the Constitution as the founding principle and law that governs what we call right and true in this country.
You are throwing up human rights abuses done in the name of Sharia law as a reason to not allow an entire religion to worship where they choose in these United States. That’s a typical red herring that’s supposed to distract from the real topic here: you want to deny a religous group the right to practice their religion, because you and the rest of the right feel that they have to “prove” that they are not terrorists. You cannot prove a negative. Therefore, no Muslim group will ever be able to open a cultural center, a mosque, or anything else to the satisfaction of some. Therefore, an entire religion is being discriminated against, and denied their right to worship. End of story.
Their human rights abuses are heinous. No doubt about it. And they would be prosecuted to the extent of the law, when they happen in this country, because what they are doing is against secular law. Murder is murder. But tossing those crimes out as a justification for banning is a red herring, a distraction. It’s a convenient little extra that “they” do that adds fuel to the fire, and allows us to be morally superior and indignant. “Not only are they all terrorists, they also condone killing women! They’re horrible!” Please. It does not excuse America from catagorically discriminating against an entire religion. And no one, including me, is condoning honor killing, or human rights abuse.
