“hip hop is dead though. ”
That hurts my heart, and my first instinct was to reply that it isn’t, but I can’t even come up with a semi-intelligent argument as to why it’s still alive, kicking and important today.
I agree. Going to talent lessons from age 8 and having people write songs for you and Autotune each line and sipping bottled water while onstage and ending on time and going to your dressing room to Tweet about animal rights – that’s not my idea of music.
I want my bands to come from broken homes, learn guitar or drums to escape crushing poverty, to consort with groupies and spill beer onstage, get fined by municipalities each time they appear, and to write their own songs.
yeah – it is reassuring though since there have been quite a few musical artists out there that have gained popularity doing things the old school way (touring, putting out good music) rather than being manufactured by some suit at a record label.
Excellent suggestions. Public Enemy and KRS ONE are the foremost in political rap. Also sample Jeru the Damaja (“A’int the Devil Happy”), Mos Def and Poor Righteous Teachers.
Mr. B fronted on us today – he never said why he removed that post. I think he’s starting to get some s*it for posting people’s addresses. If you’re going to do stuff like that, you better be ready to handle the consequences.
I think it’s a sin that seemingly anyone can get a record deal these days and rely on autotune and lipsyncing to get by in allegedly ‘live’ shows. To hell with all the ‘entertainers’ out there (Britney, Madonna, Rhianna, etc.), bring back the real singers!
I think it’s a sin more people haven’t heard (or are even aware of) the Nas/Damian Marley album that dropped earlier this summer. SO fuckin good (and they put on an awesome show at the Wburg waterfront)
I checked B&H and Radio Shack. Neither have the battery. But, I just found it on Amazon…and for cheap! Whooohooo! Seller has a good track record on Amazon so I’ll take the chance and order from them. It’s only $5 or so bucks, so no real loss if it’s a beater.

mopar, imo the song that started it all was Gil Scott-Heron’s ‘The Revolution Will Not be Televised’.
snappy, I do ebay a LOT. Let me know what you need, if you can’t find it.
If you don’t like B&H, Adorama is where I go.
