rf, philly cream cheese is the only readily available off-the-shelve product in deli’s, groceries, bodega right? or there’s better ones I’m not aware off?
“But real bagels ARE dense, all the way through, and very chewy–hard even.”
rf is 100% right (says the wise middle-aged Jewish poster, who knows from bagels). Listening to non-Jews discussing bagels is like listening to Jews discuss NASCAR. I want to scratch my eyes out with walnut cream cheese.

rf is pretty spot on in her (you’re a chick, right?) assessment of bagels.
I’ll qualify my statement by saying non-Jews who didn’t grow up on LI.
🙂
11217 – IDK I think the Jews on this site disagree and so does DH and myself who grew up in Long Island home to many jews 🙂
DIBS – ugh why is an American Wife a bad thing? also what’s wrong with Germans salaries?

Ribs and cabbage.
Champ (overcooked mashed potato with onions & butter).
Stew.
Trying to think of more.
Gem, according to my Jewish friends, a REAL NYC bagel shouldn’t be large nor dense. It should be small and chewy. 😉
I love the outside crunch on the Bagel Hole bagels. If I wanted soft, I’d get a slice of bread.
How does the old joke go?
The worst things in life…
An American wife
An English cook
A german salary
A japanese house
JB, keep the arby’s post in the arby thread so the readers of that thread can see how this plays out.
