– scientific calculators rendors memory loss of formulas
– gas range made us forget how to start a fire
– supermarket made us forget how to farm

A friend has been doing research on the effect of cognitive development and technology and is presenting some kind of paper in the fall on GPS and how it contributes to a deterioration in our ability to visualize spacial relationships and put together cognitive maps.
Translation: GPS makes you stupid.
You could say the same about digital watches. The principal at my daughter’s elementary school banned digital watches and clocks for that reason.
