In the UK, you don’t have to attend a closing at all. Just wait for a call from your lawyer.
On the downside, the time between offer and contract is much longer and the time in contract generally much shorter than here, so there’s lots of room for trickeration on either side. I found the London property market tougher than NYC as both a buyer and a renter, although RE commissions etc are lower over there.
