  1. Tell you what. Can you tell if lights are dimmer? Then there’s a noticeable voltage drop. If not, it’s probably less than 10-15% and it’s safe to run your a/c (amd fridge.) Most modern motors have internal circuit breakers also, which turn them off before damage. So be comfortable.

I seriously don’t think ConEd will drop the voltage to the point of causing damage…think of the lawsuits in this country!

  2. CGar — hey, partner. Needless to say, we won’t be getting an affidavit from donatella for benson’s preliminary injunction motion. Our associates need some training in witness prep.

welcome back onto dry land, dibs. Maybe you have some insight on my A/C question in the forum. benson – perhaps you’ll have some thoughts on the matter as well.

  3. legion, my block used to have a sprinkler cap, when I was a kid – they were great. I think I’ll go do my shopping then hop in the shower. Even my poor little netbook is getting overheated already. : (

  4. cobble,
I was driving by Atlantic and Pennsylvania Aves today
and there were kids playing in the fire hydrant
    sprinklers.

…you can always request one at the fire house and
start a cool off block party. 😉

  5. Urrgh. My neighbors HUGE A/C unit in the yard is running. I can hear it! I just want to run one little A/C! BAH! Ok, well, it’s back to the stone age for me.

Thanks, CGar, can I come to your office to get them?! (j/k)

  6. cobble, You probably have no 220v appliances. Iae,even 110v appliances can burn out or get damaged at reduced voltage..that includes fridges, a/c etc. If you want to be paranoid, turn ’em off.

Not anything with a brick, tho’. The transformer acts as a buffer and will shield the laptop or whatever from damage. If the voltage drops way too low, it will just stop charging the device. Unlikely you’ll need a surge protector, that’s for HI voltage, not low.

  7. Benson, not even a remote chance he could be confused with you. What’s going on? The great commentor and facilitator of Quotes of the Day???? You have been MIA. You MUST be busy.
