kens,
sadly, arcades have been going out like the old enclosed phone booths. (there are still a couple in Manhattan on West End Ave. in the 70’s -90’s)
the only other arcades I’ve seen in Brooklyn are the ones in movie theaters.
back in the day, every pizzeria had a small arcade space in the back set up with Dig Dug, Donkey Kong, Galaxian, Centipede and Pac Man.
I used to hang out in an arcade that was inside a bowling alley on Rockaway Blvd.
it was air conditioned, anyone could get smokes from the vending machine for 2.75 and there was even a diner/bar in there. They had the pac man that was under a glass table, so you could have your drink while playing in a comfortable chair.
I have an immediate family member who is an obstetrician and the middle one is the only one she actually recommends to patients. That always kind of skeeved me out though.
Also, thanks L for the father’s day shout out, and happy belated fathers’ day to everyone in that category. I had a nice father’s day, although rob’s worst nightmare. We went to Blue Marble ($10 for 3 ice creams, and the blackberries & cream was amazing — not quite the price outlier everyone says it is) and to the new park with the, um, restricted play areas. The splashy part of the playground was so hot and super crowded. Rob, you’re not missing anything and, FWIW, my kid can’t go to R movies. Not every restriction is discrimination.

Would I call my child names????
Maybe about 10+. I won’t post them here, lest I get chastised for already being an unfit mother.
Cobble, I feel great. Nothing to complain about except minor things; swelling, etc. Been really easy and am thankful so I haven’t bitched about anything.
There is a plan for inducing, but I’m doing everything to try to get this stubborn shithead outta me naturally. I did about 10 miles of walking this weekend.
Before this weekend I would just start with a little clay person and start messing around and see where it ended up. This time we sat down and put together a storyboard. That was fun for the kids. Then there is the picture taking, which they also like because they get to take turns pushing the button on the camera and they also see how we are following along with the storyboard. The process of loading the pics onto the computer is pretty dull for them (I just tell them to go do something else for a while). Then comes their favorite part, the narration and sound effects. I have discovered that the whole process is much more fun for the kids if you just go with crappy motion and spend a lot more time doing narration and sound effects. They get pretty bored if you’re taking a ton of pictures with only a little bit of motion in between.
That’s great, dona! Glad you could be with your Dad!
BH and I are ‘dad-less’, and though BH is a dad, his daughter had to work. So we were a little adrift this year. And it’s the first FD since BH’s dad passed away earlier this year, so it was a bit of a tough day for him. (Mine has been gone for sometime now.) Still, we did talk and think about our dads some.
Are there any arcade places left in Brooklyn (Besides Williamsburg)? There used to be one in Sheepshead Bay and Bensonhurst but those are gone for a long time.

ET: I’m sure you have heard all of the ways people get those things moving, but in case you haven’t, without making any claim as scientific basis:
– Fresh pineapple
– Rasberry leaf tea
– Sex
– Spicy food
– Walking

My condolences, too, benson.

Thanks Legion!

Benson, my condolences. Pets are family, and losing one always hurts. So sorry.

Whenever I take my kid to Coney Island, I always run out of money!
