  1. DIBS;

    This is not the worst disaster in history, nor even the worst oil spill. The worst oil spill was the PEMEX oil spill, which was also in the GOM. THE GOM recovered in a year or two. In fact, it was found that the hurricanes helped break up the oil.

    Google “Pemex oil spill” for more details.

  2. Before I head out into Brooklyn wanted to apologize I couldn’t make much of an appearance on the Open Thread this afternoon, but it was a pleasure to introduce myself. I’ve talked with cgar and will hopefully be meeting you all soon. And benson, here’s a recipe that never does me wrong:

    cauliflower pizza

    make crust using recipe of your choice. Form pizza dough.

    Mince about a clove of garlic and smoosh it with some salt. Rub it into your pizza dough like a paste, mixed with some with olive oil. Roast some cauliflower with red pepper, and put it on pizza with cheddar, mozzarella, gruyere, or any combination thereof. Add a little oregano. Bake and enjoy!

  3. Not sure what you guys want to hear Hayward say. Of course all the other oil companies are going to say they would not have done it this way.

    He can’t go into any specifics because of lawsuits. He was also not making the decisions at the well because, like he said, he is not a “cement engineer.”

    they have admitted already that it went wrong. He’s not going to admit something that will come back to bite him in a lawsuit.

    The whole thing is extremely tragic, maybe the worst disaster in history. But his duty is to the company and the shareholders.

    ET, my sis managed to raise two kids (8 and 10 now) without any TV in the house (She doesn’t watch TV at all). They still don’t have a TV reception till this day. They do have a small TV that’s hooked up to a DVD and she’ll rent or buy cartoons for them once in a while and it seems to satisfy them just fine. They do watch a bit of TV in grandparent’s house and don’t seem to really request it at home.

    Kensingtonian, more power to her, I couldn’t have done it. Although we never had cable so kids’ tv was limited (I used to tape stuff for her).

    My daughter gets plenty of exercise, does sports, walks a ton, sings in a chorus, does very well in school, etc., etc. and she watches a ton of tv. She does her homework while watching tv AND texting AND IMing AND watching youtube. Now that we have digital tv (ancient tvs, converter, indoor antennae that work better on her tv at the west end of the apartment than mine on the east end), she is catching up with PBS Kids since they have their own channel 13-3. And via netflix she streams seasons of all the Nick and Disney series through her wii.

    Considering how many of us are gainfully and productively (???) employed and spend huge amounts of time every day on the OT, brownstoner in general, asshathill, bhblog, etc., etc, I’d like to introduce the pot to the kettle.

    ExTx, with this as other parenting decisions in advance: never say never.
