Either I’m missing something, or I’m seriously cranky this morning — maybe both. But the Pier 6 thread is driving me nuts! It’s a BIG BIG park! Why are people so negative about these small segments reserved for children? The whole thing is a GIANT playground for adults, and young adults. Why not have fenced off areas for little kids?
Yes, I’ve done that too: ride down OCean Parkway, and then along Brighton Beach Boardwalk to get to Sheepshead Bay. Since it is the beginning of the summer, my legs are out of shape, and I wasn’t sure if I could do the whole thing on bike.
Yes, one can ride a bike into Breezy. Breezy also has a great bike path along the water.
Doing that bike trip makes one feel like you’re going on vacation, without leaving NYC.
Benson, while I agree that there are union abuses, in NJ, as well as everywhere else, I hardly think all of NJ’s prop taxes are going into union coffers. A bit of hyperbole, no?
Re unions: As ENY points out, there are union abuses, but unions provide protections employers might not be trusted to provide. For example, I read last week that Domestic workers union (these are the home workers, cleaning and providing home care for the elderly) won the right to get paid for overtime, sick time and vacation. Previously, these people could not get any paid time off and if you were sick, your life collapsed.
“The types of abuses taking place in China will return (yes, return) to this country if private industry is allowed to operate without effective oversight and independent worker protections.”
there are many successful companies with well paid employees with benefits and non-unionized. In fact, most tech companies are not unionized and probably the most successful of all.
I used to do that bike path, Benson, and end up at the Fort. But would either take Ocean PKwy or go down 3rd avenue to BayRidgeAvenue and then into shore park or whatever called -under the Verr. bridge. And on a bike, can ride into Breezy Pt with no hassle.

don’t bother with the union with these folks, ENY. They think average Joe should be happy working for Walmar scale and benefits.

Paying $22K year in property taxes due to union rackets sounds like abuse to me too.
ENY, if & when the US regresses like that, the NEED will arrise and so will Unions.
