  1. I fought one ticket, and ended up paying more than the ticket amount, for “court costs”, ie, wasting the judge’s time. It was one of the very few times in my life where I was so angry, I almost mouthed off to the judge. Fortunately, my calmer part of the brain, the one that can see consquences of such action, took over. The system is rigged for people to just shut up and pay up, and not fight the ticket.

  2. denton, I think you’re right. It might have been street cleaning day now that I’m thinking about it. But from my perspective it was just an expletive filled call from a very frustrated wife.

  3. M4L – I have never fought one in court. However, if you go to pay a ticket online you can electronically request to dispute – and then an offer of a fine reduction automatically appears. Basically the website automatically reduces the ticket if you know where to click. I think the city just figures an automatic reduction is cheaper than a hearing. I think the reduction usually ends up being 25% or so but never paid that close attention.

  4. I fought the handicapped ticket with a judge and lost. He made me pay up and told me that my story about bad weather “could not be verified” (true, it was not raining) and said that parking in handicapped parking was an anti-social act.

Have you ever seen how MANY handicapped parking spaces are in Lowes? Why? What is this? Handicapped nation? Why would there be 25 handicapped parking spaces at a hardware store?

But I have fought other tickets and you get an automatic reduction just for showing up. It is really one of the Dante rings of hell though. Gross.
