  1. dibs, I was wondering if it would be possible for BP to file for bankruptcy if it gets worse. I know they’re a multi-national not even headquartered here, but I bet someone’s wondering about it.

Then we (taxpayer) could do the cleanup and add BP to the list of TARP recipients.

    L, I hear ya.

I have tried to do my part before this by buying the smallest most efficient car I can, and driving it as little as I can. I’ve also personally decided I will never again buy a car with more than six cylinders. It’s a small thing but I read somewhere if everyone dropped two cylinders from their next car (obviously if you only have four this won’t work) we could immediately save the energy that we get from Saudi Arabia, or its equivalent.

Don’t own a car and had a staycation this past Memorial Day weekend. And I came close to wiping out a car owner on my bike on the Brooklyn Bridge on Friday, so I was very close to really doing my part to reduce oil consumption.

  4. All sounds great, MM… unfortunately we have, in only three generations (?), sucked just about all the oil there is to find on dry land out, except what’s left in the middle east, of course.

What we need to do is to destroy demand for oil for personal transportation, especially in the US. Since Obama is already castigated as a tax raiser, let’s get him right to work and drop a dollar a gallon fuel tax in the mix, while banning SUVs over a certain weight and speeding up his regs for fleet fuel economy.

BTW did you just say you prefer to _drive_ to Olana??? Ha.

I was there btw, very nice, during the tour the issue of stripping vs. painting the wainscoting was quite interesting.
