L, this could actually be a game-changing event that could encourage a national re-evaluation of personal energy usage.
It happened before, ya know, maybe a bit before your time, during the ‘Iranian Oil Crisis’… nothing like getting up at 4AM to be first in line at the gas station. But in the 1970s demand for oil dropped significantly due to guvment regs and personal behavior.
I left off last week stating that this BP mess was just the beginning.
Perhaps it really could be a starting point for a move in the right direction.
Eventually the oil leak will be stopped by the relief wells.
I’ve read that there was a similar incident in the 90’s off the coast of Mexico.
If the President wants to save his legacy and better yet, the future of this nation, he might take this mess as a launching point for an entirely new energy policy. One which weans us off the oil dependency which feeds middle east tensions and puts us in a position where the President has to bow to Saudi’s.
It seems to be a no brainer, the US government already owns much of GM which has staked it’s entire future on the Volt, an electric vehicle.
Start the reactors.
While he’s at it, he could issue an executive order to get as many clean up boats and crews out there as possible for now to save what’s left of the gulf coast fishing/wildlife/tourism industry.
I guess there wasn’t any “warming” in the Gore household. Besides, he’s balloned up to the size of a blimp and, if i remember, Tipper’s still a “looker.”
I wouldn’t touch either of the two right here. I’m talking about RIG and BP, not Tipper and Al.

Denton, don’t believe there’s a ch11 thing in UK or much of Europe. bankruptcy equals liquidation. that makes them much more hesitant to file

“Cobble, save it for your polite, debutante friends in the BHB OT. THIS OT is the rubber room. :P”
Oh, now they’re my friends! I see how this goes! Phhhhtt!
Well, BP still has a market cap of $118 BILLION and, at this price, is yielding 8.96%.
Biff, there’s no pre-nup right? Fat Al is worth a ton of money now with his “green” investments
