  1. Lech;

I understand what you are saying, but I don’t think it holds water here for two reasons:

-we’re not talkng about the President rallying the country with a war-cry. We’re talking about a Senate Committee hearing where our chief law enforcer was asked to characterize the nature of the problem. If he had answered the question directly, it would have gotten little notice. Moreover, I think folks can discern the difference between Islam and “Radical Islam”.

-the analogy with the IRA is not correct. The IRA was an organized group. What we are dealing with here are groups of formerly well-assimilated folks who respond to the call for jihad, sometimes just by looking at literature on the websites. This is a new type of war, and it’s best we know what we are dealing with.

  2. “How ’bout dem Flyers?”

I was sitting here, thinking how I’ve got sports watching booked until July:

    NBA playoffs
    NHL playoffs
Euro cup final (whatever it’s called)
    World Cup

  3. Benson,
This conversation emerged from EXACTLY his choice of word. I thought I was making a correction about an innocent word choice mistake… But Legion corrected my assumption.

    Legion…
Islamist is not the right word. Muslim is what you’re looking for.
“Islamist” is used to refer to the fundamentalists that are less than open to the outside world and whose culture/society shaped more by backward traditions than by anything written in the Qur’an or otherwise spoken of by Muhammad.

    tybugr6,
    …no, that’s exactly the word I meant.

  4. MM,
I really didn’t want to get into a historical discussion about the spread of Islam,
but suffice it to say that it has not been by the “pen”.
    For instance,
-the Temple Mount, on the site of the ancient Judiac Temples.
-the Destruction of the 2000 year old Buddas in Afghanistan
in 2003, a world heritage site.
-the conversion of Hagia Sophia in Constantinople into a mosque. Yes it’s now Istanbul.

    just three examples.

Let’s not fall for the “petia” that is common with islamists who have a set agenda.
look up that term and you’ll see what I mean.

And you should never ally yourself with someone who always gets line-drawing wrong by putting the line too close to themselves (except on blogs and except for anyone named lechacal). They tend to lose a lot.

  6. Legion — I already quoted Daisy Khan, the executive director of this community center and mosque. She provided the reason. And Montrose Morris did as well.

I think it’s laughable that because you don’t “go the cursing route” you are somehow a better person. But in fact, you are a closed-minded, intolerant asshole. Yes, an asshole. This kind of intolerance is the same sort of thing the 9/11 attacks were motivated by… Yes. The same.
