Humanities Ph.D.s recently hired within CUNY started at perhaps 60K. Twenty percent pay cut, they are down to 48K, and that’s before deductions, which eat up almost 50% of gross salary.
People pursuing doctoral degrees in these fields don’t expect big salaries. But a living wage would be nice, especially since we like to think that what we do (educate people, in the case of CUNY, working people) has real value.
“Managerial” i.e., top-level administrators are “exempt” from the furlough, by the way. Include them and the state might have saved some real dough.
And I was lately thinking that I should suggest to Montrose that she consider teaching architectural history at CCNY. Never mind.
“Thank you, tybur. You got there before I did. It’s the everyday people who suffer, not the rich or pretentious. But he doesn’t really care about anyone. He just likes to rant. It’s called a narcissistic personality disorder”

I think you should read this Bog Morris – Jon’s panties get all wet when New Construction Condos go up, not when some old Brownstone is being sold (Unless it’s in Brooklyn Heights) Noticed no body talks about the Brownstone Stock in Bushwick???!!! I wonder why Morris???? Maybe because the Asshats are not fully entrenched in there?? Go get a job and get YOUR HOUSE OUT OF FORECLOSURE AND GET BACK TO ME MKAY?????!!!!!
housing bubble alert(better move quickly or you’ll be priced out of these areas):
The median price of a single-family home sold in Saginaw, Michigan, doubled to $60,800, the Chicago-based National Association of Realtors said in a report today. Prices in Akron, Ohio, climbed 90 percent to $95,300 and Grand Rapids, Michigan, recorded a 26 percent increase to $90,700.
Pete…did you see this….
“Brokers told the Wall Street Journal that the Dakota’s co-op board was unlikely to allow a former staffer to live in the building.”

If being a bitch equates to getting a backbone, then yeah, she needs to get in touch with her inner bitch. How old is she?
