DIBS I didn’t think water hammer came from trapped air, but I’m out of my element here. I thought it was just a pressure wave caused by a column of fluid suddenly stopping at one end.
dh…it’s air trapped in the pipes. You can install water hammer arrestors or if it’s a small house (it’s not is it?)…
1. Turn on each water source in your home, starting at the highest point. Turn both the hot and cold water on fully.
2. Put a screwdriver inside each toilet, in the bottom of the water closet, propping open the plunger so the toilet runs continuously.
3. Proceed throughout the house, working your way down to the lower water sources. Don’t forget to run the washing machine and dishwasher. Open exterior faucets and basement faucets.
4. Observe the water flow from each of the faucets, watching it until it stops sputtering and knocking and there’s a smooth, unbroken stream of water. You may notice the faucets in the higher parts of the house take longer to run smoothly (since the air in the faucets will rise).
5. Turn all the faucets off after they’ve all run smoothly for a full 10 minutes. Turn them off starting with the lowest physical positions in the house, and working your way up.
when one of the people in an apartment on my floor (or maybe above) uses turns on their water faucet, when they turn it off there’s a loud knocking sound. Luckily it only happens in the evening and not when i’m trying to sleep.
you guys have any idea what this is and how i could describe it properly to the mgmt co so they could possibly rectify?
I like the urinals with the little fly painted on the porcelain. Men feel drawn to pee on the fly, and the fly is carefully positioned to minimize splashback. Cleaner toilets for everyone!!

Did any of you ever consider getting a urinal when you had bathroom renovation?

DH: Sounds like water hammer. Improperly vented plumbing system maybe. Plumber would need to investigate.
One must be incredibly insecure to brag on a blog about being rich.
