Pete – A basic point of the NYT piece is that there are a lot more taxes than federal income taxes. Pretty much 100% of consumers pay sales tax for example, and that’s the usual example of a tax that is borne more by the poor than the wealthy (in proportion to income that is). I guess I’m not all that worked up about the piece. It just struck me as kind of a knee jerk liberal defense when I read it.
