CGar, where are you buying???
ANd thanks for your email – it caught me just as I was leaving to spend a few days working on my lil’ country shack that has very limited cell service. I thought it would be good for the kids to have a semi-unplugged childhood for a couple of days a week, but it’s turning out to be a PITA for ME!
CarGar, I vote for getting an inspection done. I’m sure you are house savvy enough to see the obvious stuff, but I’d want to know everything possible, anyway, if only to know where possible problems could pop up in the future. Especially if the inspector can examine the rest of the building. It’s a few hundred dollars for long term peace of mind, and since you are in the fortunate position of being able to do so, I say get an inspection.
hiding income is the big no-no. Cash income, foreign accts, etc.
Deductions you make can be disallowed but not going to go thru further legal actions.
Unless outrageous, like claiming non-existent people as dependents or something like that.

No, but she does suffer from “Neighborhood Superiority Syndrome.”
I’d get brain freeze and all nervous if I had to write out a check for $350 to an acct.
