  1. tyburg,

    to be fair,
I just looked up “burka” not “burkha” on the NOW
    site,
they do have a listing from last year supporting
a bill against burkas in Afghanistan so I give them
    partial credit for that.

My larger point however is really about how they will
practically throw their entire raison d’etre out the window
if the woman happens to be Republican. I don’t like the hypocrisy. I also don’t recall hearing a single statement in support of Bush in alleviating much suffering by women in Afghanistan. And let’s please not get into a war debate on this.

  2. “…oh I forgot, they’re too busy trying to demonize an American mother from Alaska for actually speaking out and having the audacity to have political views.”

That’s right, I forgot, if it weren’t for feminists, Sarah Palin would be vice president right now. They are entirely to blame.

Reminds me of an episode discussed in Game Change. Seems that during an October 2008 focus group of Ohio undecideds, one woman went on and on about Obama, not born in U.S., a muslim, friends with terrorists, unpatriotic, no flag on his lapel, etc. She was asked, why, then are you undecided? Her answer: because if Obama loses, Sarah Palin will be vice president.

  3. Re: American tourists in Europe. Way back in the early 70’s, when I was in high school, I was fortunate enough to take a trip to England, through the auspices of SUNY Oneonta. It was a group of about 30 local high school kids from different towns who were part of a higher education program at SUCO. The trip was about a week and a half in England, visiting literary and historical sites, and our guide was an American prof, living in the UK. For what we got, it was dirt cheap, and a once in a lifetime opportunity for us upstate kids. Anyway, since upstate at the time was whiter than white, I was the only black kid on the trip. We were in London, walking around the Tower of London, with a million other tourists, and all of a sudden, a male voice bawls out in a loud Texas accent that could be heard everywhere, “Oh mah Gawd, they have N*****s here, too!” Americans, gotta love ’em.

  4. CGar,

here’s the National Organization for Women
selling out their “sister” Sarah Palin for
    political position.

    http://www.now.org/press/08-08/08-29.html

mind you, I do not think Sarah Palin is the
    answer to conservative politics,
but the berating and mockery she took from
every late night talk show host, every comedy
show and every female in the democratic party
was bordering on a witch trial.
My main point however is that they should
speak to the issues not try to portray her
as an ignorant boob, especially since the very
same argument can be made with equal effectiveness
against Joe Biden who is Vice President.
