  1. “There is something special about humans but I haven’t figured out what it is yet. We aren’t just animals with bigger brains and opposable thumbs.”

    Smoke the salvia. It will help you understand.

  2. True, MM, Prince Ranier (not King…) Agree she was stunning in Rear Window.

    Lechacal, you are really beating on those poor Mid-Westerners. But it is true, in Kansas City, they are SO FAT!!! I couldn’t believe how many morbidly obese people there are there. In NY, there are plenty of obese people, but New Yorkers walk and if I compare my current office and all the workers here with my office there……the Kansas City people were much very very overweight. Nobody walks. You take the car three blocks. Nobody walks anywhere.

  3. I think I’m just a contrarian. When I’m around Park Slope liberals I play up my conservative side, mostly just to get a rise out of them (comes from growing up in one of the most liberal towns in one of the most liberal states in America). But when I’m in the midwest around rabid fundies (fundamentalists) I act like a leftie, again just to get a rise out of them. I’m not sure I actually believe in anything at all.

    Off the top of my head, a list of things I actually believe:

    1. Humans are basically good (meaning they don’t want to hurt other humans just for the sake of hurting them), although sometimes there are bad ones.

    2. There is something special about humans but I haven’t figured out what it is yet. We aren’t just animals with bigger brains and opposable thumbs.

    Other than that pretty much everything is relative to me.

  4. slope,

    and Iggy Pop!
    …just going over Helter Skelter in my head,
    at the end of that song, on the White album,
    isn’t that where there’s a pause and John shouts;
    “I’ve got blisters on my fingers”
    I think that’s what I’m talking about, in those few words.
