  1. DIBS, agree on that too; breaks the flow of reading, and bottom signing is a normal tradition.

On bulletin boards, I always top post, on the theory that most of the time you want to read the new stuff since you’re familiar with the thread, as opposed to having to scroll down to the bottom of an endless string of stuff you’re read already. This makes for flame wars…top-posting is as heinous to killing babies, apparently.

  2. tyburg, i do ocnrol+ FOUR times for this site! But then my eyes are pretty bad for reading. I usually do it twice for most sites. So I guess I notice the effect of the wasted real-estate more than most.

  3. tybur6…I can see the whole post 90% of the time, except for your droning rants and the ever insightful MM.

It’s just that is seems that to remind oneself of who wrote the post it takes a split second to look back up to check as opposed to seeing it at the end of the post somewhat more automatically.

In my business, that split second is wasted time and lost money.

    get it???

  4. DIBS, how big do you have your browser magnified? Most posts are a few lines long… you don’t even have to scroll. Though, many of my *VERY* insightful posts (rants?) become considerably longer… and you may need to scroll up to remind yourself the author. But chances are, if you just read something awesome it was probably me.

  5. Here’s what’s good & bad about re-design:

    Good: Cleaner look-and-feel

Bad: As with almost any re-design I’ve seen, there’s the tendency to include too much. The use of Tweet/Share buttons is likely to be very very low (correct me if I’m wrong, more connected folk) so why make them so large?

The leading (space between lines) is too high; does NOT lead to more readability. Also less contrast (colored backgrund on comment text) is less readable (at least for my eyes)

So all in all, more real-estate (pun) is taken up for each post, leading to more wear on my poor index finger.
