  1. first time all day that I got to check the OT. So far I’ve gathered topics on Times Square Peep Shows, DH contemplating a move to PSlope which would entail changing his name to Dirty Breeder, Snappy hates the City, Kens talking about his goat, Rob being Rob, so nothing new?

    Cgar- You got my T-Shirt?

I have confirmation that future mrs. dahill will be there around 5:30 ish. She may beat me there so please don’t eat her alive.

  2. “Rob, you’re messing up tax returns with census. No income questions on census.”

Huh? Is that right? I thought a huge part of the census was comparing incomes amongst cities, stats, neighbourhoods, ethnicities, professions, etc.

  3. “he didnt even ask me about race. i think it’s so funny how people always think they can just assume what people are!!”

*rob*, I heard on NPR last night that, for the first time, this year’s census allows people to mark more than one race, and there are myriad mixed race categories for the first time as well.

  4. Dave, no offense to Pete (a rarity, I know), but I think he’s wrong. I’m fairly certain that my ROTH contributions are reported annually on my tax returns. As I understand it, you make the ROTH contribution, and it’s taxed in the current tax year (or 2009 for contributions through 4/15/2010), and then you withdraw the money tax free (the exact opposite of a traditional contributory IRA).

(2010 is going to confuse me, because now I have a 401(k), for the first time ever, and so I think that spells the end of my IRA contributions.)

  5. “does something have to be filed for the one made by April 15 for the 2009 tax year???”

Dave, I’m not an accountant, though sometimes I play one on TV, but, I believe the answer is yes. I don’t know how the 2009 contribution would otherwise be accounted for, so I suspect an amended 2009 return would do the trick.

  6. “Cgar…question….I was going to ask later but would forget…re: Roth IRAs…if someone has already filed income taxes but they have never made a Roth contribution before and they make one by April 15 for 2009 and then later for 2010, does something have to be filed for the one made by April 15 for the 2009 tax year???” —-
yes, your nails have to be filed.
(but seriously–I don’t think anything gets ‘filed’ with your tax return for roth ira contribution. But where you contribute keeps track of for which year it is to be filed.
Not sure how the keep track if eligible income-wise to make contribution).
