When CGar (and I) leave for work, it’s still not bad outside. And the fact we cross the water keeps it cool. I find it’s more the return trip in the evening when it’s really hot and muggy in the summers that’s way worse. It’s into the house and straight into the shower every time.
I also find taking the subway in the summer is much hotter than walking or riding the bike. I think I read once it’s something like 15 degrees or so hotter on subway platforms than outside. And if the train has no A/C and it’s rush hour…fugghedaboutit!
OK, serious question, and I’m not asking this just to get a rise out of the cat people. I have a real problem I need to solve.
There are a couple of neighborhood cats that have taken to pissing and humping and fighting in my back yard. They like to hang out under the back steps, right next to my bedroom window, and it’s starting to smell like cat piss and they are waking my and la chacale up at night. I have started opening the back door and throwing rocks and stuff at them, but they haven’t gotten the point. I assume it’s illegal to deal with the problem the old fashioned way, so I have to resort to other measures. Is there any kind of cat repellant out there? Do I just need to borrow a friend’s mean dog for a while? Any suggestions?
Pete, unplug it and turn it off! You really shouldn’t attempt this while it still has moisture in it. Let it dry completely and, if necessary, take it all apart to remove the water from the inside of the screen.
CGar, go into the office a little earlier so you can change in the bathroom. it’s been eons since my intern days working in Manhattan, but I vividly recall NOTHING resolves the heavy sweating due to the cold – hot – hotter – cold sequence from home to subway to work. only solution is change at work
lechacal, try mothballs.
