I just finished the Patti Smith book. I like her music a lot, particularly the early stuff. The poetry is ok, but needs the rock and roll part to make it work. But the central mystery that I can never figure out, and that the book glosses over or makes look too easy, is how she and Mapplethorpe moved so quickly and easily into Warhol’s inner circle in the back room at Max’s Kansas City. So many very interesting and talented people tried and failed at that. Maybe you will have some thoughts on that after you read the book. I like the scene, though, when Allen Ginsburg tries to pick her up at the automat and doesn’t realize she’s female.
CGar, think it’s time for you to sign up for some M4L and/or Kens bodyguard protection services. the Target sign on you is getting bigger and flashing brighter
jessi,
those monks don’t fool around with the protests,
remember that Pulitizer prize winning photo of the monk on fire?
it’s on the cover of the Rage Against the Machine album.

“don’t be silly,
Yul Brenner died years ago.”
I thought DIBS was referring to Elvis, who has left the Wat. Not to be confused with the Return of the Wat.
