I just saw the Paul Giamatti article in Tuesday Links. Turns out that’s the other apartment I bid on last year, but, needless to say, my offer was not as high as what Mr. Giamatti paid. Absolutely beautiful apartment – perfect renovation. It’s a co-op, not a condo, and, contrary to the writer’s take, the layout works really well. The owner bought this apartment and then bought the unit next door (a small 2 bedroom), and when the co-op wouldn’t let him combine the 2 apartments, he decided to sell both units, but only after he’d done the gut renovation on the larger unit for himself.
I had considered bidding on a nearly identical unit a couple of floors down (which didn’t have the smaller bedroom by the entry), but I would’ve wanted to reconfigure the LR/DR and kitchen the way they were configured in this unit, which didn’t make a lot of sense because the apartment had already been gut-renovated by the sponsor, and I would’ve been ripping out the very renovation I was paying for.
BoerumHill, no need to explain. At least you didn’t have far to go for court.

Thankfully, made bail in time for lunch. I hired her from a cleaning service. All just a big misunderstanding.
