I’m with denton on that one, don’t need a tenderizer. Read up on cuts and how to cook them. Ask the butcher, they’ll tell you. Mine [Staubitz] has never failed me. Sometimes they give me instructions that seem odd, but they always work! Butchers know how to cook meat!
“I find that I use the same 3 pots and pans over and over again.”
That’s just the way it usually goes. Stainless is great, just need to know a couple things. Make sure it’s hot/heated enough before you put the food in or stuff sticks. Use enough oil/butter.
Chicken fingers have sustained my short friends for years! Your cooking will grow as they do!
Homemade pizza! Cool! Timer is key! Do you have a pizza stone or were you using a baking sheet?
You need to be a bigger man to make me feel inadequate.
“Kids will love most anything Mom makes!”
I made chicken fingers a few weeks ago and they came out really good. I made the bread crumbs from scratch cause I hate buying stuff with so many ingredients I don’t recognize.
I was making ‘homemade’ pizza today, but it burned 🙁
I’m going to try it again in an hour.
“I was thinking of getting one of those gavel like things (don’t know what it’s called) that are ridged that you beat the meat with to tenderize it.
I tried to make steak and it was so tough.”
Darling, that is SO screwed. I have never owned one, and never will.
You are doing one of two things wrong:
-You are buying the wrong cut of beef;
-You are over-cooking it
I think I’ll get things a piece at a time. And tell people to give me as b’day/holiday gifts.
I have an entire stainless steel set, I’m ready to chuck out the window and some loose pieces I swiped from my Mom. I find that I use the same 3 pots and pans over and over again.
ET, go back and check your pots, no doubt you’re burning your food again! lol…
I bought my first set of LeCresuet when I was sixteen, using a stolen credit card. I still have some of them. The others, after thirty years, had some enamel chipping. When I bought some replacements, I saw they had a ‘lifetime guarantee’. I said what the hell, let me send the fucked pots and see waht happens. They replaced them all!
“cobble, maybe we should do a blowby of ET’s kitchen. Make her feel inadequate. Do you think we could turn it into a reality series?”
LOL! You’re so mean!
Yes, the new ones take a bit of baby’ing. Cooking bacon in them helps a lot! I ruined one of ours once, so I only cooked bacon in it for awhile, and it’s good as new now.
Adding Meat thermometer to list.

So what cut of beef does one buy for a good steak?
I had spiced it up really nicely and it was tasty but tough to chew.

Might have been the cut, or the way you cooked it. Once you know the difference, you won’t worry.
Kids will love most anything Mom makes! Just keep it simple until you feel more confident. You’ll get there! Don’t put so much pressure on yourself!

Good tools are surely a lifetime investment.

It’s true, the old used ones are the BEST!
