  1. ” got back from a late ‘date’ with hubby and checking in” –
    is that a euphemism that just had sex….and then went on the OT? you’re just supposed to rollover and go to sleep afterward.

    biff is southern canadian…she didn’t say what country.

    Cgar… interesting condo at 42butler but probably too small (and a walkup) but cheap… and I see one at 32 3rd street with backyard but probably too narrow. both duplex.
    (addresses are approx)

  2. Noki, I, for one, did come back to check out the OT After Dark. Seems the club was closed last night. Maybe it’ll re-open tonight.

    “For example, I thought Biff was a middle aged grey-haired and likely Southern gentleman”

    I AM a middle-aged, partially grey-haired man. However, I’m not Southern and I’m most certainly NOT a gentleman!!!

    And don’t fear; there are plenty of us liberals and even a few of us Canadian Socialists still around fighting the good fight.

    Maybe see you in the OT After Dark tonight. Bring your dancing shoes.

  3. Just got back from a late ‘date’ with hubby and checking in. First, whoever it was who said the open thread was still hopping after 6 or 7pm, was full of shit.

    Second, I read the Expert Texpert provided thread regarding the skating rink and New Orleans – from a couple of years ago – in its entirety. It must be said that we were and are a snappy bunch of folks.

    It was particularly fun to recall my projections about particular Brownstoners I’d never met at the time. For example, I thought Biff was a middle aged grey-haired and likely Southern gentleman. I thought that Montrose was a middle aged dude. I thought that Bronx Girl was ‘Box Girl’ – go figure – and I thought that DIBS was pretty much exactly as I learned DIBS is. Which is to say someone I thought I would like and enjoy despite differences.

    Anyway, that is all. Except to say, Bxgrl, I am so with you that I can barely even speak about it. It isn’t funny, it isn’t interesting, it isn’t even a politically ideological point of conversation for me anymore. I am so frightened and pissed and turned off in general by all who argue that ‘liberalism’ is somehow a bad thing that I can sometimes barely breathe. You inspire me with your spunk.

    Good night all. Or anyone who actually tunes in at this late hour.

  4. Not apeshit- it’s just a discussion I feel going south and yes I do see your point on Italian caricatures. There are plenty about Jews as well, if you remember the bike thread.

    Well think of it this way- I was so anticipating having this discussion with you I couldn’t wait. Take it as a good thing. 🙂 (Hugging back- keeping an eye out for CGar).

  5. Bxgrl;

    Hey, I asked you to hold your fire till Tuesday!! Well, you force me into a quick response.

    You missed the subtle and brilliant sarcasm in my remark about Italians (if I have to say so myself ;-). To make the point more blunt: Italians and other types are routinely presented in this thread as caricatures – with little objection. Here I present for discussion a thoughtful essay by a leading Jewish thinker discussing why many secular Jews adhere unquestioningly to a political othodoxy, and you go all ape$hit on me. Not fair.

    (((Virtual hug for the weekend)))

    Signing off;

    Benson – questioning intellectual orthodoxies is my game.

  6. And one last thing, benson- for the record. That article is a right wing take on the subject and wrong on many counts. He is simply giving a tongue-lashing from the conservative playbook, not providing an serious or complete interpretation of Judaism or the history of the Jews (or Jewish liberalism) in this country. As such, it is useless.
