Gem, I just don’t believe in helping anyone before you help your own. Until this country figures out how to manage our money (and let’s face it, it is our money…govt. has no $$…they have our tax dollars) to take care of our citizens, I feel that they should not be trying to help out anyone else. We have people still struggling to get out of disaster housing, get food, clothes, an education, healthcare, etc. I guess I look at it like this…why should I come clean your kitchen when *I* have a sink full of dirty dishes. To me it just doesn’t make sense. And I also feel that international aid is nothing more than a p.r. stunt on the part of our govt. We just want to look good in the eyes of the world. That turns me off.
…I heard the whole thing, and for the record, I love that Diana Krall version of Peel Me A Grape! I heard that one on NPR (of all places) a while back but never knew who sang it.
Thanks.
you and DH and Jessi were really putting on a music festival there. my itunes account is burning up.
I believe there is a substantial basis of philosophical thought on Rob’s controversial commentary.
from nihilistic to existentialist, it comes from a place few actually care to explore and even fewer dare to admit to. It also encompasses an innate human ability to immediately compartmentalize tragedy for the sake of survival.
perhaps Kierkegaard said it best in his epic Either/Or,
this is paraphrasizing from the Either;
“…so he died on stage, and perhaps, I thought to myself, this is how the world would end….to the sound of thunderous applause and clapping and with everyone thinking it is all a big joke.”

Liked your Kierkegaard. Lovely sentiment. Much better than “not with a bang, but a whimper.”
