  1. Oh, Benson….oh la la!!

I now have to revise ‘our’ story above to include you wearing calculators around your hips and switching your slide ruler. My heart goes pitter as you calculate the BTU’s on those Fedders.

  2. Sorry, cmu- I love the terms. Except when the word “geek” is accompanied by a “Gee- you just have to see that old Tyrone Power movie.” Then it’s 🙁

I do remember always being fascinated by computers and when my ex bought the Commodore 64 I was besides myself. But there is nothing like blowing up your first computer- the Poof!, the flames (so colorful!), the wispy curls of black smoke….Ahhh…good times, good times.

  3. DIBS
Exactly! not old, just salt and peppa!

My first hi-falutin’ job in Manhattan was in an office that had a mimeograph machine, I don’t remember how to spell it, but I remember how it smelled. And carbon paper, white dress shirts and carbon paper. Life was rough then.

  4. sam…when I started my first job I was doing company spreadsheets on that yellow accounting paper…We got IBM computers the next year and VisiCalc.

Yes old (with sexy salt & pepper hair), but lots of young guys (and girls as well I presume) are really into that. Sorry, I digress.

  5. True story:

In my freshmen year of college, we used slide rules too. In sophmore year, we had to switch to calculators. I didn’t have one, so I borrowed one from a friend who was attending college nearby at NYU (I went to Cooper Union in undergrad). A week later I bought my own calculator, complete with belt carrying case. I didn’t realize that these cases were geekish. After classes I decided to walk over to NYU to return my friend’s calculator, and it had a carrying case too. I had to carry my books, so what to do? No problem, I put both calculator carrying cases on my belt, one on each side.

As I was walking through Greenwich Village, I noticed that people were pointing at me and laughing. I couldn’t understand why, as I was naive and geekish. Only years later did I understand.

    Nowadays, of course, I’m a suave man-about-town. 🙂

  6. I love you using the name Troy McClure. I read your posts in Phil Hartman’s voice (silently, not out loud, that’d just be weird).
