  1. “Is there a good fish sauce? or are they more or less all the same? What should I look for?

Try and get the ones from thailand (they call it nam pla) and most chinese groceries should have it. It should be quite watery and dark, but not opaque.

  2. MR b if you are reading this can you delete the three posts i made in this thread earlier that contain my aim screenname? i just googled my screen name and i never realized if i post it here it’s searchable lol.

    *rob*

  3. hey folks,

have any of you gotten to Flushing yet?
If you want THE best nyc ChinaTown, that
    is the place.
went for a hot pot restaurant recently,
    excellent.
    too many restaurants to name,
and all kinds of interesting markets.
there’s a mall with a food court that
will have you crying for more.

  4. Thanks slope/dibs. I’m going to Brooklyn Chinatown. There’s a big Asian supermarket there.

mmmm slope, that dressing sounds good. Will try it.

but what does this mean “Nasty stuff, but totally alchemical”?????? Is Fish Sauce bad for you, should I not be eating it?

  5. Don’t underestimate skill for a good PB&J. Besides they are much better than egg salad anyway. Safer to eat too.

So – any input from money people welcome.
We have a 5.875% 15 year mortgage with about 10 years left to pay. I have an unused HELOC which is prime minus .25% that can pay primary loan off with.
What is likely upper range of prime rate for say next 5 years? (mortgage bal. is only $110k so not talking much risk).

  6. ET, go to any decent supermarket, Korean grocer or specialty food store. Wherever the soy sauces and rice vinegars are, you’ll find some fish sauce. Nasty stuff, but totally alchemical — does wonders in all kinds of dishes. Will definietly round out your noodle soup.

50-50 lime juice and fish sauce, with a bit of sugar, cumin and cilantro makes a great dressing for slaw with cabbage, peanuts, scallions and carrots or red peppers.
