cmu, ‘Orientalism’ the book by Edward Said, and the attitude, refers to the preoccupations, preconceptions, and discrimination of the West against the ‘Orient’, which in Said’s view encompasses Asia, South Asia, and the Arab/Persian Midle East. Way too intellectual for me, but I’m aware of the book.
These days, I thought ‘Asian’ was the correct word that replaced ‘Oriental’, with ‘South Asian’ referring to India/Pakistan/Sri Lanka etc. I’m aware in Britain the terminology is slightly different.
