    yes, DNA/gene splicing is possible, the scientist who decoded the human genome, Craig Ventner, has a company that is busy splicing together genes in bacteria for all manner of things. Many times they use viruses which are really natures gene blenders.
    as far as hollywood, I don’t think your everyday lab tech would have the funding or equiptment(things like viral incubators for just cooking up a fake human DNA strand. But they will in the future, no doubt.
