Benson – I wish it had been mandated when I was 25 – uninsured. Got cancer. Took me 10 years to pay off hundreds of thousands of dollars & was red-lined for any health insurance until I was 48 & had been cancer-free for a number of years. So each time it recurred I was again working only to pay health care costs.
It never ceases to amaze me what people do on the subway. A first (for me at least): The woman opposite me wrapped a gift between stops. Soup to nuts. Assembles the box, fills it with tissue paper, puts in the gift (a perfectly nice looking silver picture frame), takes out a full size roll of wrapping paper, which she then cuts with regular size scissors (I’d really want to be sitting next to her when the train lurches), a Scotch tape dispenser, and ribbon for good measure.
OK, I won’t argue on a technical point. Let’s accept that the government will attach a lien to your property instead.
If you think that the government dunning a person’s account because they choose not to buy health insurance, or they choose not to buy a certain type of health insurance is a good thing, then we have a different conception of freedom.
Suppose you are a healthy 25 year old and as such, you wish to purchase only inexpensive, bare-bones catastrophic insurance. This is a logical move for many young people”
Precisely what is wrong!! It;s not logical for the rest of us. But then, you don’t care about that, do you?
It should not be thought of as insurance…it’s health care funds, and we all owe into it. It *should* come out of general revenue (that 50% tax on over-a-million income would fund it nicely)

Thanks Benson!

m4l: “how about I sell you a big mirror so you can admire your own perfection?”
Maybe I could reciprocate so you could watch all those working harder than you about to catch up.

I don’t strive to change anyone’s mind. I just want them to understand that I’m right.
