  1. “I’ve noticed too the copters are now becoming a constant presence in Brooklyn Heights and people have a right to be pissed about it and try to do something to lessen the disturbance.”

Biff, you’re just pissed because you were late for the heliport this morning, and I had to take off for Manhattan without you.

  2. DIBS — it is not a formal house. What the seller was shaping up as an open kitchen/dining room was probably one bedroom and a bathroom. And we hadn’t contracted for a period renovation. We had contracted for filed work renovated to code. He just didn’t want to do it. He said we should be carrying candles up and down the stairs at night like they did back then, and he was only half kidding. As you know, we ended up in court.

  3. “Can they stabilize it- the photo itself is in great condition.”

Now I guess you’re talking about restoring and preservation. That’s different than taking a photo scanning it and retouching the file, and out-put of restored image.

For restoring and preservation, I know there companies that can attach an acid-free backing and glue to the image to support the original paper, and can recommend ways to store them to reduce further deterioration, I just haven’t worked with any, so cannot recommend. [My experience is limited to original artwork – drawings, paintings] You could also try calling Talas, and ask if they recommend anyone. Failing any of that, I can call a book restorer I know and ask him who he might know.

Whatever you do, do not use tape on it or glue it to anything. And try to avoid putting it in one of those regular photo albums with the plastic sleeves, the image itself may lose/flake off onto the plastic. Use archival board or paper to store it. That’s the limit of my understanding in terms of photography.

  4. Is anyone else creeped the EFF out when Tony Dungy is commentating? He is extremely awkward and gives the camera a death stare when he isn’t speaking.”

Yes, I agree. He is obviously extremely astute when it comes to football, but he seems so stiff and wooden he creeps me out. Also he is an anti-gay religious type (which not everyone knows) and I don’t like that, either. But no doubt he knows his football.

  5. “This argument comes up all the time on here…”if you don’t like corn stalks on the sidewalks, this is nyc…” i don’t really think it’s an actual argument. It basically says, if you don’t like something you should leave, instead of stand up for yourself and what you feel is appropriate, or try to work out a compromise. I don’t get it, why should I leave just because I don’t like something, or just suck it up and deal with it?”

Quote of the Day to Bodhi.

Take it to an extreme: Someone decides to run a jackhammer all day in the apartment above you for 24 hours a day. Do you tell yourself it’s New York, expect to deal with noise?
Or a friend gets mugged or assaulted on the streets. Do you say, “it’s New York, it happens”? Of course these things are far worse than helicopter overhead and, if it’s the worst thing one has to deal with all day, one must have a pretty great life. But the point is, as Bodhi said, we don’t have to just accept it. I’ve noticed too the copters are now becoming a constant presence in Brooklyn Heights and people have a right to be pissed about it and try to do something to lessen the disturbance.
