I can’t wait to see the SNL skit about the Nobel Peace Prize!
ok- that does it. You’ve been firing pot shots and can’t let it rest from yesterday. I wasn’t personal- I didn’t call you any names. I responded to you telling me “no one told you to be freelance” so I should stop doing anything and go on welfare. You freaked out and today you’re still freaking out. Yo want to tell people ow to live their lives, don’t first rant about national health care and the government safety newt, then turn around and tell someone to go on welfare. Undercuts your argument big time. Now just drop it.
I won the Nobel Peace Prize?
The announcement was a shock to the president as well, he certainly didn’t think he was a contender. It would be of more use to debate the fitness of past winners – Arafat for one, than give Obama a hard time for something he had no control over. Good choice, bad choice, the Nobel committee choice. Guess which one counts.
In war, as in love, practice makes perfect. There is no doubt at the moment that US has the world’s most formidable armed forces.
Speak softly but carry a big stick, that is the traditional American approach.
I believe the Nobel committee is endorsing that and is giving this award pro-actively rather than retro-actively. I approve.

Thanks Benson. I would probably do the same if I was your dad. I had a couple of similar situations.
Talking about healthcare. I had a huge feud at a hospital once when my grandma was very sick in the ICU and no one was taking care of her at all. They just let her rot there. I tried to be politically correct and nothing worked. I called the director of patient relations and let him have it and a few nurses on the floor who work union jobs and could care less shit. Grandma was screaming for pain medication and they were too busy drinking tea and talking about their weekend to care. Let me tell you, it got ugly. They called 3 security guys on me to escort me out. Guess what, they didn’t even touch me. I explained politely what happened. Then told them that if after that, they still chose to throw me out, number 1 they have no right to touch me since they are not officers and can’t lay their hand on me which gives me a right to self defend myself and throw punches back and 2 if they are going to attempt to kick me out of ICU, they will definitely need to approximate their force and I suggested that they bring another 3 guys since it’ll take about 5-6 to get me out. They really reconsidered and left me alone.
CH, because the road to hell is (often) paved with good intentions. Actual results are more important. I’d rather have all the Prizes be like Lifetime Achievement awards, rather than endorsements of current politicians.
As for warmongers, if Kissinger can get it, anyone can! Yes, I know he got it for ending the Vietnam War, but his accomplishments were generally quite the opposite of what the prize is intended for.

I heard Silvio Burlesconi was lobbying for the award for himself. Stand against a wall, ladies, if you are in his presence.
The only Nobel that still has any mystique is the one for literature. All the hard science awards get split now or go to researchers who are not public figures. They deserve it, but every October I just go, “Who?”
And Obama getting the award? Kind of just a slap in Bush’s face. The Nobel committee is well known for being politically motivated.
