  1. WonTon, I had a (legitimate) Thai massage in Bangkok once and could barely move my body the next day. They do some serious stretching and bending. It’s painful, when done right.

M4L, I get your point and don’t think it’s necessarily a cultural thing. It is strange in a way. On the other hand, to my PLUSA friends here, I think they really do see me more as “Biff” than anything else and it would almost be even stranger to hear them say my real name (Ben Cohen). Whatever people are comfy with should be the rule.

  2. Snappy, I’m all for no real names on blogs. There’s a bunch here that I reference them by their name when I see/meet them. To each his/her own and I’m certainly not going to dictate what people should or should not do. Rather I’m just saying “I” find it very weird/awkward. Maybe it’s a cultural thing.

  3. chicken, if you get any free time in Bangkok and want to do something less unwholesome than the other PLUSA’s suggestions, I recommend shopping at the Chatuchak Weekend Market, or (for a more comfortable a/c experience) at the crafts floor in the new Siam Paragon Mall.

A dear friend of mine owns a massage place not far from Khao San road. It’s Thai Traditional Massage, cheap, no frills surroundings, and superb. If you want the details, email me.

  4. Any secret PLUSA handshake has to end with the thumb and index finger forming an “L” . . . and I should know because joining you all on the OT is how I choose to begin my vacation.

Snappy, you should see how intimidating lechecal is in the light of day!

  5. chicken, I’ve NEVER heard that one at all. There is nothing at all SECRET about anything gay in Bangkok!!!!

Don’t worry about getting involved in some mix up.

Also, if you’ve not been there before, when you are hitting the titty bars, RULE NO. 1 is to stay on street level and never go to an upstairs or second story bar.
