I seriously don’t know any regular smokers who go into a person’s home or other indoor public place who expect to be able to smoke. I don’t even smoke in my own apt bc I don’t like how the smell lingers.
Some bars let their patrons smoke after a certain hour at night, in order to keep drunk people off the sidewalk late – avoiding noise complaints and potential community board issues when their liquor license if up for renewal. sadly – owners of such bars would probably lose your business rather than their liquor license, as there are enough smokers who will come to a bar just because they can smoke indoors.
if it’s out in public, on the sidewalk – tough luck, that’s the only place we are legally allowed nowadays!
Barry is no rocket scientist, CGar. But he is capable of writing what people want to read.
Funny story about this book…it was originally supposed to be published by McGraw Hill (owned by S&P) but as all the problems unravelled it became clear that the ratings agencies were the real enablers. McGraw wouldn’t publish what they gave him full editorial rights over a year and a half ago so he took it to Wiley.
when I quit smoking (cigarettes) about 5 years ago I used to stalk people on the street who were smoking and follow them for blocks inhaling their second hand smoke. I don’t do that anymore but I still feel the occasional twinge of envy. Glad I quit though, it’s EXPENSIVE.

Not surprised about Bob Novak – he had a brain tumor, correct?
I am surprised about Brett Favre, though I guess I shouldn’t really be surprised that he unretired again.

Small world, Dave, I suffered through law school with Barry Ritholz.
And on another note of reincarnation, Brett Favre just signed with the Vikings!!!!!!!!!!
