  1. Ok, so nobody volunteered to be DTM and I had to go do it myself. I noticed heck_of_a_job_brownie added this to the Awaye thread:

“So I did some digging and was able to find the original Awaye photos (still on the server). They seem to be very
    poor copies of the originals:

    ENJOY!”

  2. Cgardener:
That’s a real shame about Smith&Hawken. they really had topo of the line items. Am sorry to see them go

Dibs – sorry to not have replied. The gourmet grocer you are thinking about is “Ernest & Klein” on 6th avenue btwn 55tth & 56th street

  3. herkimer, the SoHo store closed some time in 2008. I picked up some great things for the garden over the years. I’m going to try and get there this weekend. I read elsewhere that they decided to close because they were unable to find a buyer for the chain.

  4. Try the French Toast at Saraghina. You can still get the pizza’s as well during brunch. Montrose, isn’t the garden great?! I can’t wait until they open the counter area at the back. Owner said they will sell food-to-go in the AM. And I want to steal that tractor in the garden, unless slopefarm gets it first or Rob destroys it to keep the farmers at bay.

The people who are putting up the extension also own the empty lot that fronts on Halsey. Haven’t seen the work lately as I am getting home when it is dark. What is wrong with the extension?

  5. thanks for the tip CGer. wasn’t there a smith & hawken in SoHo? it’s really too bad they’re closing, I loved that place but mostly couldn’t really afford it for myself (hello Lowes). Just shopped there for gifts, etc. Speaking of gardening, my hollyhocks are 8 feet tall!! It has been a very exciting summer in the garden. Do you have one?
