  1. “There are 5 families on this block alone who have become single income families. They all have kids and essentially they have been told if they want money they need to work.”

So, they’ve got to come up with a way to make money. ANY type of job will do, or some money-making idea of their own. What makes these kids so special that they shouldn’t have to apply themselves even if it is tough to find work? Scapegoating ANYONE is just an excuse.

“those jobs are crappy, low paying, long hours,.. and most of the time, that’s the only ones these illegal immigrants can get. ”

M4L is right. Americans don’t want the lowest-paying jobs, and won’t work for the $ ilegal immigrants will to get that job.

“I’m telling you, I have 4 teenagers on my block that can NOT find summer jobs and there parents are NOT giving them money because there’s none to give.”

    Two words: Car wash.

“How about the lower class Americans (you know, the ones in the ghetto) who are being let go and replaced by illegals because they don’t have to be paid minimum wage, they can’t join a union, they can’t collect unemployment, they can’t get disability insurance should they be injured at work.”

I don’t buy it. “Lower class Americans” have MANY advantages illegal immigrants don’t. If they find themselves competing for the LOWEST level of jobs, with illegal immigrants, and haven’t acquired the skills to get ahead, I can’t feel sorry for them.

  2. Snappy – If you’re desperate, I used to make cufflinks out of buttons – just leave a lot of thread between a pair of buttons & wrap thread around the sort of stem thingy that’s left.
