  1. I’m a huge fan of Reislings (favorite! so many varieties!), Pinot Grigios (I know wine snobs hate this), and Chardonnay’s for whites. Not a fan of Sauvignon blancs.

Red’s I’m a lot more particular about. I like certain grapes grown in certain areas but not when grown inother areas etc.

Red’s are hit and miss with me. I usually like to order a mixed case of reds try them all and then go back and order cases of the ones I like. The others I’ll use for cooking.

I’m also one of those people who don’t think you need to spend more than $25 for a good wine. Most of the time I shop in the under $15 category for my everyday wines.

  2. Dave, you may well be right about sake. Whenever I share a meal with Japanese colleagues or businesspeople, they order Scotch, which suits me fine. I have not been introduced to the rarefied world of excellent sake. I have only had the warm, awful stuff.

I also love beer, but seldom drink it because it makes my belt shrink.

  3. No- I’ll have to try that. I just like wines on the sweet side- not dry. But what can you expect? We used to drink that stuff at Passover. My first introduction to wine was trying to beat the prophet Elijah to the wine glass.

  4. speaking of upstate NY wines. I am going to Cornell area for the long weekend for a wedding. Anyone has any recommendations of the wineries there.

Any of the below you would recommend?

    Swedish hill
    Goose watch
    Thirsty owl
    Sheldrake point

    For rieslings:
    White springs winery
    Hazlitt 1852 vineyards
    Lakewood vineyards
