-what was the name of the original town in this section of Brooklyn?
New Uterecht.
By the way, as a final piece of trivia, Bensonhurst is named after the owner of the farm that was sub-divided, the Benson family (no relation!). The Benson family had owned this farm for centuries. When the family sold the farm to the sub-division management company, one of their stipulations was that the family farm be preserved, which it was for decades. Alas, when the sub-division failed, the family farm was torn down too.
If you ever get to see photos of what the original Bensonhurst-by-the Sea development looked like, you would be amazed.
I’m guessing Bed-Stuy.
OK folks, I have to run, so here is the answer:
-what was the name of the sub-division?
Bensonhurst-by-the-sea
-what is the name of the neighborhood today?
Bensonhurst, of course!

I’ll go along with the guess of New Utrecht.
Many prominent Dutch families, Benson, Cropsey, Nostrand, Van Pelt, Van Brunt and DeSille to name a few, called New Utrecht their home.

sixyears, that would be my guess but I can’t think of any areas where they knocked of big victorians to build multi-families in Midwood.
Mitwout or some other Dutch spelling of Midwood
Please hold on, Benson – I’m working on it.
New Utrecht
Utrecht
Bay Ridge?
Biff…I answered one question correctly (purposefully) so I should get the tour by having the most correct answer. it was the one about the “Chase.”
