I believe that he does run the show. Yes, the Ayatollah’s have certain power over him but it’s not dissimilar to the situation in Thailand where the King has the ultimate say when things get out of hand but the politicians get a free hand to continuously muck things up.
Besides, the guy most likely to win is very moderate and has held the Prime Minister’s post before. he’s not unknown.
Just to clarify- the security guard was shot first- precisely because he was a security guard. And I think it takes a special kind of person to place themselves in harm’s way to protect others. Just mho
In my book he’s a hero – security guards in high risk jobs know they may have to put themselves on the line- and he certainly was. We take them for granted- and that’s a shame. These were highly trained armed guards- the Mall is iconic, like the Trade Center was- I guess it was only a matter of time. He was there on the front line and he died for it – he died a hero.
Kens, good point. The security guard who shot the killer certainly prevented what could have been a tragic massacre. There is no doubt he saved many lives.
Oh I thought he already kicked the bucket. I am sure he will. Don’t think he’ll live to survive a gun shot(s) wound at 88 but who knows. He’ll either die or rot in jail. Either case, it sucks that an innocent life was lost.
Kens- I know. It was just sarcasm in response to biff’s comment about the unfairness of life. I understand the guy is in the hospital in critical condition. I hope they “forget” to give him pain meds. I had a few other thoughts on what I think should happpen to him but they would get me a time out on brownstoner if I posted them.

better the devil you know than the devil you don’t (plus it’s not like he really runs the show anyway)

I thought he was actually running the show. What am I missing?

Nope – still have a house in London but liquidated the rest of the portfolio two years ago.
