I went to the Concord with a giant NYS BOCES (Board of Cooperative Educational Services) School Group. I’d never seen anything like that before. I was swimming in the afternoon and ice-skating at night. Drunk ice skating that is, I flirted like crazy with a bar-back who was working in the room Jay Leno was preforming in (My friend and I managed to slip in). I convinced him to hang out with us after he finished and also got him to snag a few bottles which he was kind enough to personally deliver to our room. I was so bad.
The giant dining hall was amazing though. like 2,000 people dining all at the exact same time. The food was good too. I can’t imagine the effort it took to pull that off. Was a blast.
Glad I got to see it, even if it was slightly past it’s heyday.
Biff, guess you lucky that the good looks were handed down the generations. My grandfather was a super good looking dude. I remember my brother & I found that picture of our grandfather and we both say “what happened to the good looks?” (as we looked at each other and our father)
Apparently, one of my great-grandparents passed up a chance to invest in Grossinger’s when it was starting out. I did go once as a kid to each of the Concord, the Raleigh and Kutschers at the very end of the schmaltzy heyday. Concord was by far the schmaltziest.
Question:
Is John Del Signore The What?

“Some day this bike lane war’s gonna end, but today is not that day.”
Just curious.
This is a pic of my Paternal Granddad from the WWII Memorial Registry.
