  1. DH, when I was there it was Valentine’s Day of 1999. Myself, two female friends and a male friend decided to have dinner and then go check the place out. We were all dressed up. The Grizzly Adams look-alike bouncer made my male friend take off his tie before they allowed him to enter and growled and licked his lips at my Dominican friend. We got in there and were waiting for about 10 minutes to get the bartender’s attention to order drinks and then I saw the confederate flag. I yoked up my friends and we went headed to the Village and proceeded to get drunk as hell.

  2. Snappy, the best part is you can pick up all the ingredients from Chinatown for a fraction of the price you would pay at your local grocery store and the food is much fresher too. It is very inexpensive.

  3. oh man – hogs and heifers!! i remember that place.

I went there back when i was like 16 or 17 – don’t remember much about the bar except that it was fake coyote uglyish and the bartenders all had these scripted things they would yell at the male patrons.

What I remember is what an adventure it seemed like being in the meatpacking district (circa 2000ish) – that stretch of washington was still pretty barren, and it really felt like you were in the middle of nowhere.

of course now, instead of stepping over blood from the meatpackers, it’s regurgitated apple martinis from tenjune and steak frites from pastis.
